Never Ask for a Promotion at Work

Asking for a promotion is one of the worst things an employee can do. A promotion is a right that should be granted on merit, not a favor extracted through pleading. If you are forced to demand it, that carries many implications: a company that does not value you, a manager who does not care about your effort, and an environment that only recognizes your worth when you raise your voice to claim it.

Once that door is opened, you’ll find yourself in the future having to ask for every right or entitlement, until you are seen as demanding or “nagging.” But if your promotion comes naturally as a result of your effort, success, and ability to showcase your achievements in a positive way, you build the image of a trustworthy employee and establish a reputation where your rights come to you without insistence.

And if this balance does not exist, and the path to promotion is only opened through direct requests, then know that the work environment is not suitable for you, and leaving it is better than staying.
