Kindness and weakness are two traits that cannot coexist.
When kindness is paired with weakness, it turns against its owner. With repeated shocks and disappointments, a heart that once sought goodness becomes wounded and burdened, forced to wear a mask of fierceness just to protect itself. The evil we sometimes see in people was not born purely evil; it was once broken kindness, gentleness trampled underfoot until it had no refuge left but hardness.
Yet, when kindness is reinforced with strength, it becomes a rare jewel. It gives a person mercy without weakness, and firmness without cruelty. In that state, one knows how to draw red lines that no one may cross, while still keeping the heart open to those who deserve it. He unites the hand that holds the balance with the hand that comforts the shoulder.
True kindness is not about pleasing everyone, nor about lowering yourself so others can remain standing. Real kindness is to first light your own heart, and then light the hearts of those around you who appreciate the light and do not extinguish it. It is not a surrender of dignity, nor weakness in the face of harshness, but rather measured giving, conscious mercy, and strength that knows when to open and when to close.
